A New Path: From the Camino de Santiago to 1972 New York
The Camino de Santiago gets in your blood. It is a journey of reflection, unexpected connections, and personal transformation. For years, I have shared those footsteps with you through my memoirs, Another Camino Story and My Way on the Camino Portuguese.
But today, I am stepping onto a completely different kind of path.
I am incredibly excited to announce the release of my debut novel, Billy: A ’70s Story, officially launching this Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
From Pilgrim Trails to the Gritty ’70s
While this book trades the peaceful trails of Spain and Portugal for the turbulent, raw streets of 1972 New York, the heart of the story remains the same. It is a deeply character-driven narrative about the invisible threads that connect us all.
Written in an immersive memoir style, the novel follows Billy, a troubled college teenager spiraling downward into the dangerous world of using and dealing drugs. Trapped in a lifestyle with no clear exit, his trajectory changes forever through a chance meeting with an older woman. This unlikely, cross-generational bond offers him a lifeline and a powerful path toward redemption.
Why I Wrote Billy
Just like a pilgrimage, life is full of unexpected detours. I wanted to explore how a single, random human connection can completely alter a person's destiny, even when they are at their lowest point. If you enjoyed the reflective, emotional themes of my travel writing, I believe Billy's journey will truly resonate with you.
